Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer - Highways / Infrastructure

Location: Surrey (Major Highways Project)

Rate: Excellent Outside IR35 day rate (DOE)

Contract: Initial 6-month contract with strong potential to extend beyond 12 months, plus opportunities on additional local projects.

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to join a major highways and infrastructure project in Surrey. Reporting directly to the Senior Site Engineer, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of earthworks, drainage, Section 278 works, carriageway construction and associated highways infrastructure.

This is a long-term contract offering an excellent Outside IR35 rate and genuine continuity of work on major civil engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Site Engineer, assist with the day-to-day engineering delivery of the project.

Carry out setting out, surveying and verification of construction works.

Supervise daily site activities, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme and to specification.

Review engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

Support delivery of earthworks, drainage, Section 278 and carriageway works.

Manage QA documentation, ITPs, inspections, testing records and as-built information.

Produce and update accurate as-built surveys and AutoCAD drawings.

Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to maintain programme.

Maintain accurate site records, daily diaries and progress reports.

Assist with project handover documentation, Health & Safety Files and commissioning activities.

Identify and resolve engineering issues, escalating where appropriate.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer on highways or major civil engineering projects.

Strong background in earthworks, drainage, Section 278 works and carriageway construction.

Confident using surveying equipment for setting out and as-built surveys.

Experience with QA documentation, ITPs and AutoCAD is desirable.

CSCS Card (essential).

SSSTS desirable.

Full UK driving licence preferred.
